My name is Lindsey Retan and I am the atelierista (art studio coordinator and facilitator) at Akiba Yavneh Academy of Dallas, a modern orthodox Jewish day school that teaches infants through high school aged students. I work mostly with children who are 0-5 in a Reggio-inspired art studio facilitating sensory experiences and encouraging creativity. I also teach music and movement, parent and me classes and play guitar for our early childhood Shabbat shabang on Friday mornings. I lead holiday sing-a-longs and help the youngest children transition to different spaces with music. Music and especially singing have always been passions of mine. I taught myself how to play guitar, ukulele, hand percussion and a little piano. I’m excited to put this new tool in my tool belt and share this new knowledge with my community! I received my bachelors degree in Sculpture from the University of North Texas and my master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from UNT as well. I am on the Early Childhood Leadership team at Akiba Yavneh and also a part of the nationwide Jewish Early Childhood Educational Research Collaborative (JECERC). I am married to Julian, the love of my life and we have two beautiful sons. Ryan is 3 and Dylan is 4 months and they both attend Akiba Yavneh.
