Meryl Brown MM, MT-BC, DT, founder and Director of Developing Melodies Music Therapy Center, is a board certified music therapist and professional member of both the American Music Therapy Association and the Illinois Association for Music Therapy. She holds master’s degree in Music Therapy from Illinois State University and a bachelor’s degree from the Crane School of Music at The State University of New York College at Potsdam, where she majored in Music Education. Meryl has been providing music therapy for individuals since 2006 and has worked with a variety of populations including early intervention, individuals with autism, pediatrics and pediatric intensive care, adult mental health, and the elderly. Meryl received her credential as a Developmental Specialist in January of 2008, which allows her to work more closely with children ages 0-3 years in the Early Intervention Program in the state of Illinois. In addition, she shares her passion as a song leader and early childhood music facilitator at Moses Montefiore Temple in Bloomington, IL and as a drum circle facilitator in and around Central Illinois. When not leading or participating in music, you can usually find Meryl running (either by chasing her two littles or longer marathon-type running), biking and beer tasting with her husband, or volunteering with her Kiwanis Club, Temple Board or sitting on a commission with the City of Bloomington. I am only slightly involved.
Being a Rhythm ‘n’ Ruach facilitator is the perfect addition to her CV, as it perfectly mashes together her passions for music, Judaism and early learning into a usable, fun and meaningful package. Come join us for Shabbat Family Jams in Bloomington, IL!
